Using an Android Phone as an SMS Gateway

Learn how an eligible CommsGrid account can pair an Android phone and send SMS through its SIM. Android Gateway access requires a plan that includes the module; carrier charges may apply.

CommsGrid accounts start with ongoing SMS Gateway access. Android Gateway is an optional module and requires an active plan that includes it.

How Android Gateway works

After enabling an eligible plan, pair a supported Android device with your CommsGrid account and complete the setup steps shown in the app. Messages are sent through the paired phone and its SIM, so carrier coverage, SMS bundles, and charges are determined by your mobile provider.

When to use it

An Android Gateway can suit workflows that use a connected phone and SIM. For provider-routed SMS, use the SMS Gateway and purchase credits separately. Check the active plan and SMS credit pricing shown in your account before sending.
